Allen Canterbury
Allen has been on the staff of Interlink since April 2008 serving as a Primary Counselor in the Drug and Alcohol Treatment Program. In this position, he works with residents in the Treatment Program.
Allen is a United Methodist minister and served churches throughout Kentucky for 20 years. During that time, he served as a resource person for many AA and NA groups in the communities where he lived. Rev. Canterbury received a Bachelor of Arts in Religion and Philosophy from Kentucky Wesleyan College in 1975. He also received his Masters of Divinity from Lexington Theological Seminary in 1979. His Masters Thesis was entitled, “A Pastor’s View of Child Abuse”.
Allen has extensive experience in the field of substance abuse counseling. He served as the Coordinator of Family programs at Wayside Christian Mission. As Coordinator, he was responsible for staff management, client services, as well as media and community relations. While at Wayside (1995-2000), he was part of the Start up Team for the Substance Abuse Program where he worked with the staff at The Healing Place. Allen served as Operations Manager at The Salvation Army’s Center of Hope (Homeless Shelter) from April, 2000 until May of 2003. During this time, he directed the daily operation of The Center, trained and developed staff, coordinated client services, and was responsible for media, community, and company relations.
Allen Canterbury has a deep commitment to social and economic justice, peace issues, and to providing services to the homeless community. He is married to Marilyn, and they have two married daughters, Rachel and Lauren. He also has a daughter by a previous marriage, Hollie, who has two sons, Tevin and Isaiah.
